What’s new in December in Playa del Carmen?

During the months of December and January lots of events and traditional celebrations take place in Mexico, making this the most popular and coolest months of the year to visit Playa del Carmen.

We begin with the famous Riviera Maya Jazz Festival that will take place from November 30 to December 2 at the renowned Mamita’s Beach Club, where national and international talented jazz musicians will give you and unforgettable night under the stars.

From December 16 to the 24th, Mexican posadas make a traditional appearance. It all starts with a street procession that resembles the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem and that finally culminates in a house party, also called a Posada.

Then Christmas arrives on the 25th of December, this is the day when the last posada happens during the Nochebuena or Christmas Eve. During this traditional celebration, families gather to have a unique supper.

And last but not least, New Year’s Eve arrives right on the 31st of December and in a lively city such as Playa del Carmen, you won’t have trouble finding the best parties where you will dance until the clock strikes twelve and you welcome the New Year with the perfect underwear to ensure good fortune, according to Mexican traditions.
